Pink, White, and Black-Our New Colours

Watching the Boys & Girls video, I was not only completely smitten with the location, sound, and the fact that Jean Paul Gaultier had something to do with it, but furthermore seeing that the clothes are simply (and I mean simply seeing as they are simple yet elegant) splendid. Owing to the simple truth that I quite love fashion and music and love putting the two-and-two together, I decided to make clothes inspire by the looks from the video.

The clothes on the people themselves were all black and white but in between shots you are clearly able to see gorgeous shades of pink clothing on racks or being tested. This, in turn, gives the video a pop of colour. I wanted to incorporate these same pops of colour and put them into the outfit itself.

The Essentials: A well-heeled shoe and a pretty black bra peeking through takes the button down from established classic to a very sensuous, still elegant shirt. Opaque tights keep the levels of mysterious sensuality and masculine classy balanced. A leather glove adds a nice hint of chic edge.

Though there was no blazer on Martina in the video, I thought it would be a nice touch, completing the outfit all together. The tank tops were neither on Martina but they come from those pretty little pink things being seen here and there being pulled around on the racks. They also come in handy if you don't feel comfortable having just a bra peeking through. The pink all-around gives the outfit a nice pop of colour. Hotpants, not sure if I would wear them, but if you are brave enough, the sequined ones give a little shimmy shimmy to the look. Besides looking great, the belt really just pulls the whole outfit together adding some structure.

I Would Like A Boy

While reading through a Dujour Magazine newsletter, I discovered this cool music video done by Martin Solveig feat. Dragonette filmed at the Jean Paul Gaultier mansion. I have fallen in love with the sound, the set, and of course the clothes.

Edith Piaf and La Vie En Rose

I just absolutely LOVE Edith Piaf's voice! I think it's amazing that a person can encompass such a magnificent, strong voice. In one minute she gives so much more in her performance than some artists can give in a whole performance.

There is a movie titled LA VIE EN ROSE that portrays the life of Edith Piaf (obviously). I know portrayals of artists lives are usually sub par, but Marion Cotillard's performance is just AMAZING! She jumps into Edith Piaf mind, body, and soul in this film. She jumps so deep into the performance that one would think Edith Piaf has been brought from the dead.

Edith Piaf was given justice with this movie not only because of Marion Cotillard's performance; but also because the movie itself is amazing, dark, but amazing. The movie is indeed very dark but not in a nightmare paranoia way, but in a very melancholy way. Maybe it's dark because they wanted to portray her life that way; or maybe the movie is dark because that's how Edith Piaf's life actually was. Though dark, I shouldn't go without saying there was no laughter, because there was. But the laughter soon fades and we go back to seeing sorrow, the sorrow through her eyes. When watching the movie, one can see how Edith Piaf became such a vengeful, bitter woman in her latter years.

The point I am getting at is if you have not seen this movie, go rent it, buy it, whatever, just see it. You don't only get an excellent performance of the portrayal of someone, but also a different look into another artist's life; as well a different view film making wise.

Today was Michael Jackson's (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) memorial. I didn't get a chance to watch it but I did see some pictures on Yahoo. Just seeing those photos and seeing images of him from the past made me get all teary, I still can't believe the King of Pop is gone. May he rest in peace.
